During the last year, Carroll Shelby talked nonstop about his 1,000-hp Mustang which he wanted to be the fastest car ever built, and it’s got to be street legal, now the development work and testing are done and the result is the 2012 Shelby 1000. At first, the Shelby American tried to keep it quiet until the official introduction at the New York Auto Show on April 5 but it’s difficult to keep it under wraps.

Shelby said the 2012 Shelby 1000 was engineered with a form follows’ functions philosophy, and is more about flying under the radar than announcing it has arrived. The Shelby identification is present in the car exterior but it’s relatively subtle, the exterior modifications are all relatively minor, but completely functional.

The Shelby 1000 also gets a new hood with functional heat extractors, a functional front splitter, and functional rear diffuser. Naturally the fuel and exhaust systems get a major makeover, as do 2012 Shelby 1000 interior and suspension. For the post-title Shelby 1000, the Shelby American team rebuilds the G.T. 500′s 5.4L engine with heavy-duty crankshaft, rods, and pistons, then enhances the breathing with a larger supercharger, ported heads, and performance exhaust, along with improved cooling.

If people want to spent $200K on a 2012 Shelby 1000, they want the speed, look, power, and for it to be an exotic machine. Ford is using higher quality parts and giving more attention to detail at this price. If people want that fast of an ordinary car then people will buy a Supra, make it stupid fast, and still have enough money left over to buy a Ducati motorcycle, or an exotic Lamborghini, Ferrari or Aston martin.
