In general conversation, the terms “reliable” and “high mileage” aren’t usually applied to Italian sports cars, of any vintage. What’s one of the most powerful selling points for any used car, especially an exotic? The answer is 1967 Lamborghini 400GT. As with any rule, there are exceptions, and one happens to be the 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 owned by Jack Riddell. Riddell bought the Lamborghini’s used in 1972, and using it as his daily driver over the 40 years since, he’s taken it past the 250,000-mile mark. Being able to say that a car has been sparingly used can add a significant number of digits to the sale price.
When the Miura was launched in 1965, 1967 Lamborghini 400GT front-engine cars changed as well. Riddell purchased the car used, from the original owner, in 1972. Since then, he’s rebuilt the engine five times, rebuilt the transmission “several” times, funded an interior restoration and even resprayed the body himself in a lighter shade of red, as close to the original color as he could get. Ridley and his “V12 TORO” stopped by Jay Leno’s Garage and Jay, an obvious Lamborghini fan – there’s a Countach and a pair of Miura coupes in the background – pored over it. Then, of course, he and Riddell took it out and put more miles on it. This new model accommodated a rear set of seats that couldn’t fit in the original design. Touring had to pay considerable attention to increasing interior space without losing the 350 GT’s elegant proportions.
To save production costs and increase durability, bodies were changed from aluminum to steel. Chassis details remained almost identical. Only the spring and shock rates were changed to cope with the increased weight of the larger steel body. The Vintage 1967 Lamborghini 400GT is ready, fasten your seatbelt.
