2013 Kia Ceed Showcases Kia Latest Design Language
A new 2013 Kia Ceed (essentially the equivalent of the Kia Forte in the United States) is set to debut at next month’s 2012 Geneva Motor Show and now we have all the official images and details of the five-door hatchback version following last month’s leak. Kia released more images and details about the 2013 Kia Ceed five-door hatchback but it is remaining mum about the car’s powertrain details.
The 2013 Kia Ceed MPV model will also be offered to serve as Kia’s version of the upcoming Hyundai ix30 and it has just been caught testing for the first time. The 2013 Kia Ceed is aimed at European markets and borrows styling cues from the new Kia Optima and even the redesigned Kia Rio. First sales of the new 2013 Kia Ceed are scheduled to start in Europe in the second quarter of the year.
The new 2013 Kia Ceed showcases Kia’s latest design language, with an aggressively pointy front end with sharp lines and a new headlight design with LEDs. The 2013 Kia Ceed wing-shaped grille is more rounded than in the Optima, but the sculpted hood and upswept lower front valence are common traits; at the back there’s an integrated spoiler and new taillights.
The 2013 Kia Ceed is longer, wider, and lower than its predecessor, but features the same wheelbase; this results in a very sporty profile as well as a wide track and solid stance. Inside, Kia has worked on bringing the 2013 Kia Ceed interior up to a premium level, and focused the cockpit around the driver.
There’s a sporty steering wheel with gloss black trim, and button controls for Bluetooth and audio. Sitting at the top of the new centre fascia is a touch screen panel for audio and multimedia functions, while the rest of the 2013 Kia Ceed cabin presents multi-tone sports seats, chrome trim, and an overall prestige theme.
Kia is keeping quiet on the 2013 Kia Ceed engine details but expect a range of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel units and the choice of manual and automatic transmissions; we should know more once press days for the 2012 Geneva Motor Show commence on March 6.
The details on the 2013 Kia Ceed powertrain apparently will have to wait until its formal unveiling in March but European media speculate that the redesigned Ceed will share the new turbocharged 1.6-liter GDI engine announced in January for the Hyundai Veloster Turbo. Other reports suggest that the 2013 Kia Ceed will produce 240-hp from a 1.6 liter turbo engine.
The new 2013 Kia Ceed will be built on the same platform as the upcoming Hyundai ix30 and will come as a replacement for the Carens/Rondo. Based on the new Hyundai ix30 platform, the 2013 Kia Ceed competes in the compact hatch segment.
The 2013 Kia Ceed is exactly what closed the space among the firm and its C-segment European competitors, for example the Opel Astra or the VW Golf and today, when the brand new creation of the best hatchback is nearly here, the distance is closing a lot more.
For a true competitor in the European C-segment, the 2013 Kia Ceed looked rather boring and average and that dingy grayish blue color didn’t help it at all. Unfortunately, the 2013 Kia Ceed engine line-up is yet to be demonstrated, but engines will be more efficient regarding fuel usage and emissions.
